Vertical Slice: The Binding of Isaac

Me and 3 artists were tasked to recreate a 10-second clip from The Binding of Isaac. I did all the programming work on this project.

This project used trello for task management and github for source controll.

My contribution to the project

- Devloping all the systems
Due to some unfortunate circumstances I ended up being the only developer on this project, meaning I programmed everything.

- Helping to implement the art
The artists I worked with were not entirely familiar with the Unity engine yet, so I often helped to implement their art.

This was one of the first projects I did with a team. Unfortunately I ended up being the only developer who was able to work on the project while there were meant to be three. This meant that I had to simplify or drop many features to get it done in time. There are many things i would have done differently had I had the time. Im still happy with how the project turned out despite the rocky start however.

What i learned from this project.

- Simplifying or dropping features after planning them out.
When we planned everything we did so with the expectation that three developers would be working on them. Unfortunately after the first week I ended up being the only one able to work on the project. This meant I had to quickly determine what features were the most important and drop the ones I believed were less important and inachievable. All the things I did do had to be done much faster than I normally would have. This was unfortunate, but at the same time a great lesson.

- How 2D art is implemented
Because I helped implement most of the art for this project, I now have a deeper understanding of how that process works.
